Read MoreIf you’re feeling the sudden need to urinate more often, experiencing burning pain, or noticing unusual urine odor or color, you may be dealing with a urinary tract infection (UTI). At InMotion Health, we bring urgent care directly to you, virtually or in the comfort of your home, so you can get fast relief from UTI symptoms without the wait or hassle of a clinic visit.
What Are UTIs?
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that affects any part of the urinary system, including the bladder, urethra, or kidneys. Most commonly, UTIs involve the lower urinary tract (the bladder and urethra), and they can cause pain, discomfort, and other unpleasant symptoms. While UTIs are more common in women, anyone can develop one. Without timely treatment, the infection can worsen or even spread to the kidneys.
How Are UTIs Treated?
At InMotion Health, our provider can diagnose UTIs through our convenient in-home services. We offer point-of-care urine testing to quickly identify a UTI, and, if needed, we can additionally send out samples to our trusted lab partners to pinpoint the exact bacteria and guide more targeted treatment.
If a UTI is confirmed, we’ll electronically send a prescription to your preferred pharmacy,. If your symptoms are severe or recurring, we’ll help guide you through additional testing and next steps to prevent long-term complications.
UTI Symptoms
UTIs can range from mildly uncomfortable to extremely painful. Common symptoms include:
- Burning sensation during urination
- Frequent urge to urinate, even when little comes out
- Cloudy, dark, or foul-smelling urine
- Blood in urine
- Lower abdominal pain or pelvic discomfort
- A feeling of incomplete bladder emptying
- In some cases, fever, chills, or lower back pain (which may indicate kidney involvement)
If you notice any of these symptoms, getting prompt treatment is key.
What Causes UTIs?
UTIs are typically caused by bacteria (most often E. coli) entering the urinary tract through the urethra. Contributing factors can include:
- Sexual activity
- Holding urine too long
- Poor hygiene
- Certain birth control methods (like diaphragms or spermicides)
- Menopause or hormonal changes
- Urinary tract abnormalities or obstructions (e.g., kidney stones)
Recurring UTIs may also signal an underlying issue that needs to be addressed through follow-up care.
Why Are UTI Treatments Important?
Left untreated, a urinary tract infection (UTI) can lead to serious complications such as kidney infections, sepsis, or chronic bladder issues. Early diagnosis and treatment not only relieve painful symptoms quickly, but also helps prevent the infection from spreading, reduces the risk of emergency room visits, and protects vulnerable individuals like pregnant women and older adults.
How Should I Support My Recovery From UTIs?
Supporting your recovery from a UTI involves more than just taking antibiotics. It’s important to drink plenty of water to help flush out bacteria and avoid bladder irritants like caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods. Make sure to urinate frequently and completely, practice good hygiene (especially after using the bathroom), and wear breathable, cotton underwear to stay dry and reduce bacterial growth.
Always complete the full course of antibiotics, even if your symptoms improve early. If symptoms worsen or aren’t fully resolved after treatment, we’re here to help with follow-up care and testing.
