Yeast infections are common, uncomfortable, and often disruptive. Whether you’re experiencing your first episode or dealing with recurring symptoms, getting timely treatment can help ease discomfort and prevent complications. At InMotion Health, we provide convenient, private care from the comfort of your home so you can start feeling better without the wait for urgent care.

What Are Yeast Infections?

A yeast infection, also known as candidiasis, occurs when there is an overgrowth of Candida, a type of fungus that naturally lives in the body. While this organism is usually harmless in small amounts, certain conditions can allow it to multiply and cause symptoms, especially in warm, moist areas like the mouth, skin folds, or genital region.

Genital yeast infections are the most common form and typically affect women, but men and nonbinary individuals can also be affected. Oral thrush and skin-related yeast infections are also frequently seen.

How Are Yeast Infections Treated?

Treatment for yeast infections varies based on the location, severity, and frequency of the infection. At InMotion Health, we provide both virtual and in-home visits, allowing you to receive discreet, personalized care in the comfort of your own space. During your consultation, your provider will review your medical history, assess your symptoms, and perform a visual exam of the skin or oral cavity. For in-home visits, we offer lab testing to help confirm the diagnosis. When testing involves sensitive areas, we use a self-swabbing technique, which our team will guide you through step by step. This approach ensures your comfort and privacy.

Most yeast infections respond well to antifungal medications, which may be prescribed in several forms depending on the type and location of the infection. For individuals dealing with recurrent infections or infections caused by resistant strains, your provider may recommend longer treatment durations or additional diagnostic testing to rule out underlying causes.

Yeast Infection Symptoms

Symptoms can vary based on the location of the infection but often include:

  • Itching, burning, or irritation in the affected area
  • Thick, white vaginal discharge (often described as “cottage cheese–like”)
  • Redness or swelling of the vulva or skin folds
  • Pain during urination or sexual activity
  • Cracking or soreness in the corners of the mouth (in oral thrush)
  • White patches on the tongue or inside of the cheeks

What Causes Yeast Infections?

Yeast infections can be triggered by a variety of factors, including:

  • Antibiotic use (which can disrupt natural flora)
  • Hormonal changes (such as pregnancy or contraceptive use)
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Weakened immune system
  • Wearing tight or damp clothing for extended periods
  • Poor hygiene or excessive cleansing of the genital area

Why Are Yeast Infection Treatments Important?

While yeast infections are typically not life-threatening, ignoring them can result in persistent discomfort, worsening symptoms, and complications such as secondary bacterial infections. For individuals with compromised immune systems or those experiencing frequent recurrences, timely treatment is even more essential. Addressing the infection early helps relieve painful irritation, prevent the spread to other areas, and uncover any underlying issues contributing to the imbalance.

How Should I Support My Recovery From Yeast Infections?

Supporting your recovery starts with wearing loose-fitting, breathable cotton underwear to reduce moisture buildup. Avoid scented soaps, douches, or harsh cleansers that can disrupt your natural flora. Be sure to complete the full course of any prescribed antifungal treatment, even if you begin to feel better before it’s finished.

Good hygiene is key; gently cleanse the affected area and dry thoroughly after bathing. If your symptoms don’t resolve or return soon after treatment, contact InMotion Health for a follow-up. We’ll adjust your care plan to ensure you’re on track for a full recovery.

Who to Trust with Treatment

At InMotion Health, we understand how personal and disruptive a yeast infection can be. That’s why we offer confidential, compassionate care through secure virtual appointments or in-home visits. With rapid diagnostics and tailored treatment plans, you get fast relief when you book a visit with our team.

When in Doubt

If you or someone else is experiencing severe or life-threatening symptoms and you’re unsure whether it’s an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room. It’s always safer to seek immediate care rather than delay treatment.
